Worst marketing idea of all time? Severe irony deficiency? Just plain old abject cluelessness?

You decide, via RH Reality Check:

Springdale Drycleaners of Cincinnati, Ohio, has been etching “Choose Life” ads on wire coat hangers used to hang dry-cleaning.

What’s worse is that this seems to be an ongoing effort. Reports of the “choose life” coat hangers already were on the Internet back in March of 2011, when Joe.My.God posted a picture of the hanger then. And before that on Regretsy in 2010. So despite over two years of attention, the business continues to think this is an excellent cross-advertising campaign. In fact, the practice was losing them customers as far back as August of 2010, but still the dry-cleaner continues to use hangers as a place to offer inappropriate propaganda.

As NARAL Pro-Choice Wisconsin said on Facebook, it’s a reminder of why we will never let them make us go back.

Staggeringly stupid stuff. What’s bad for business is… bad for business, but that’s not going to stop these tacky morons from running their company right into the ground. You’d think that a loss of money might, you know, clue them in a little bit, but apparently not!

Conservative PAC says women should vote for Mittens because HE can’t overturn Roe v. Wade!

image
Pregnant Mitt by Tom Tomorrow

The conservative “Concerned Women for America” PAC is floating a ridiculous new bid to bring more ladies into the Romney fold(er): Denying that the Republican presidential wannabe can do much of anything to eliminate a woman’s right to choose in a new television ad. The spot is an “answer” of sorts to an ad featuring Scarlett Johansson, Eva Longoria and Kerry Washington that was produced by MoveOn.

Of course, Mitt Romney has repeatedly stated that he would choose Supreme Court justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade throughout the 2012 election cycle. He might even be able to appoint THREE Supreme Court justices should he best Obama in November. The thought of this turns my blood cold and it should scare you, too.  You can’t really get rid of a Supreme Court Justice, they’re appointed for life. Imagine three more Republican-appointed numbnuts joining Scalia and Clarence Thomas on the bench, and then hanging out there for a few decades (perhaps for the rest of your life on this planet). Not a pretty picture.

Lately, ignoring his own previously held positions (and the various flip-flopping he’s done on the matter during his political life, all of it a matter of public record), Romney himself has attempted this tactic, claiming that there is nothing he would do to restrict abortion rights. Today a New York Times editorialand Romney’s own website, whoops-a-daisy—blew a hole in that lie. The Romney campaign is even airing a new TV ad that portrays the “severely conservative” politician as a moderate on abortion... because… WHY NOT? At least a few dumb-dumbs might believe him!

The inanity of this ad is awe-inspiring, especially the tag line:

Don’t Let Hollywood manipulate your vote!

Nope, let some lying liars manipulate your vote, instead!

Creepy, creepy stuff. How fucking dumb would you have to be to buy into any of this, or be swayed by this specious argument? Having said that, it’s not like Republicans don’t win elections all the time by appealing for the votes of America’s ignorant masses…

Todd Akin thinks doctors are ‘giving abortions to women who are not actually pregnant’

image
Look at that stupid, stupid face for a moment, won’t you?.

In case you forgot, Republican Senate candidate Todd “Legitimate Rape” Akin doesn’t actually know how pregnancy works.

On doctors who perform abortions, he’s even hazier:

“You find that along with the culture of death go all kinds of other law-breaking: Not following good sanitary procedure, giving abortions to women who are not actually pregnant, cheating on taxes, all these kinds of things.”

Cheating on taxes??? This was all from 2008, so I’m sure we won’t get much additional insight into this particular crazy misogynist pseudo-science theory, but if I had to guess, I’m pretty sure he’d say something about how those baby-killin’ doctors just looooove a good, medically unnecessary womb-rootin’.

I admire the slavery-to-war-to-terrorism-to-abortion transition though- it’s like a Dada game of “Seven Degrees of Kevin Bacon” with insane right-wing bullshit.

God’s Little Preemie Dolls

image

The disclaimer at the God’s Little Ones reads: “Warning if you have had an abortion or miscarriage this page may be hard to view.  If you choose to proceed you may want a tissue box near by.”  The site also feature dolls in various stages of “gestation.”  The photo below shows dolls ranging from eight to eighteen weeks.

And while it might be true that we’re all created in His image, “creation” costs more for some of us than others: “Models available in pink, tan and brown skin tones others available upon request add $10.00 for brown as it is a more expensive pigment.”
