Atheist comedian Patton Oswalt’s ‘Sky Cake’ stand-up bit made into parody Chick tract

image

Chick tracts, for the uninitiated, are horrible little “Christian comic books,” meant to spread the gospel and warn impressionable youth against, well, everything. Characters in these comics meet terrible, horrible, awful fates (such as burning in a lake of eternal fire, etc., etc.) if they fail to repent and find Jesus. As a former waitress, I have a special hatred for Chick tracts . People used to leave them as tips when I worked at, I shit you not, an Andy Griffith Show theme restaurant in Bumfuck, Indiana.

I wish there was a special lake of eternal fire for the people who leave Chick Christian comics as tips

Perhaps incensed by the religious appropriation of an art borne of delinquent youth culture, a company called (what else?) Godless Comics has started putting out their own irreverent little responses in the Chick.milieu. Will we start seeing these little comics tucked covertly in our windshields after pit-stops in rural truck stops? Probably not! But at least the disgusting practice of using comics (comics!) for promoting religion is being subverted; all is well, and God is in his heaven!

Their latest is an interpretation of Patton Oswalt’s assessment of religion’s role in civilization, “Sky Cake.” You can read it all here, and check out the bit below:

Animated Chick Christian Comic: Tiny Shoes

image

Another animated tract from Chick Christian Comics. This is one of Jack Chick’s supposed classics, “Tiny Shoes.”

The message here is incredibly messed up, isn’t it? You’re “wicked,” so God will kill your kid. That’s hardly fair! The kid didn’t do anything.

What a weird “ministry”: Devoting your life to scaring the shit out of gullible, superstitious people, for their own good!
