I was hesitant on blogging about this because the face swap stuff has kind of been over for a while now. We’ve blogged about people face-swapping with their own tattoos here on DM back in July. It seemed to have run its course.

However—and that’s a big HOWEVER in ALL CAPS—Tumblr ‘Record Cover Face Swap’ is damned hilarious. It’s just one dude who sports a beard and face swaps with classic album covers. The results are fucking funny. The longer you scroll his images, the funnier it gets.

The Face Swap filter on the Snapchat smartphone app does exactly what it says on the box—exchanges two faces within a photo, or with a face in another photo in your phone’s picture library, all within the app, no need for any image editing experience. For an automated photo filter for phones, it can actually do a decent enough job, and the results are invariably highly weirding. Even if you don’t use Snapchat you’ve surely seen the filter’s output on your Facebook feed. It’s mostly goofy fun for normals—Snapchat is, after all, a social media platform based entirely around selfies—but I’ve seen it done creatively and disturbingly with pets, toys, and amusingly, inanimate objects the app has mistaken for a face.

But the most messed up expression of the fad yet has to be people face-swapping with their own tattoos, and the more rudimentary, abstract, or just plain bad the tattoo, it seems, the crazier the result. This isn’t “dangerous” per se, it’s just a really clever way to use Face Swap Live. That’s why I’m posting it. When it’s Cindy Lauper’s turn, the result is pretty funny.

Of course folks in the YouTube comments are none too pleased with the “vertical video syndrome” going on. Here’s what the uploader had to say:

I recorded this way because I find the face swap app works better with the mask feature vertically rather than landscape. Only reason, no big deal. I have nearly one million views on Facebook with this video so who cares if it vertical.

So there you have it. Who cares if it vertical?
