I guess this is not going to be too amusing for all the Dicks, Kuntzs, and Hookers out there but for the rest of us, well…

We all know how sticks and stones may hurt bones, but some names can be mildly amusing—especially if there is something childishly funny about them. You know the kind of thing, old favorites like “Mike Hunt” or “Mike Hock” or even “Amanda Gobble.” Now, these names are quite amusing on their own but what about those individuals whose surnames when placed together create an unfortunate double or even single entendre like this fine bunch of happy couples, to whom I wish all happiness.

At first, I first thought some of these must be photoshopped but after checking up on a few of them via newspaper wedding banns it turns out they’re (let’s say mostly) legit. Authors often claim they spend hours searching for suitable and unusual names for characters—who knew they had to look no further than the social pages of the local paper?

Space brides of 1966!

When I first saw this video, I was sure that it was shot in London—in 1966 that’s where the crazy fashion energy was, after all. But no, it wasn’t London at all, it was actually New York. I reckon that Matthew Weiner now wants to re-do Season 5 of Mad Men in its entirety just to find a way to work in these incredible bridal fashions. After all, that’s about when Don marries Megan, right? Such a wasted opportunity!!

A terrific find from Kelly Faircloth at Jezebel. The AP Archive headline for this clip is “Futuristic and outlandish fashions for brides from 1966,” but you really can’t beat Jezebel’s triumphant invocation of “SPACE BRIDES”!

These designs came from Edythe Vincent at Alfred Angelo—Vincent was actually Angelo’s wife, appropriately enough. I’m not 100% sure but I believe that the promotional text for this presentation ran,

Bridal gown for weddings in outer space! Styled by for Alfred Angelo’s “Bridal Fashions in the Year 2000” collection. Mod mini skirt of open air knit crochet stitch and vinyl plastic, with boots to match. The sky diver’s helmet lends an authentic feeling of jet propulsion for the forward look of the 21st century

Faircloth recommends scoring this wholly soundless bit of fashion footage (more than 8 minutes long!) with David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” Nailed it…...

Some wedding photographer had the bright idea to add a little spice to the dreary and stilted wedding pics of time immemorial—and apparently it’s caught on! Because who doesn’t like being a little bit naughty at what often ends up being an inherently antiquated and conservative ritual ... aw hell, I can’t work up any interest in that perspective. Look at the nice tushies!

I suppose you can’t spell honeymoon without “moon”.....
