David Lynch made a video for his song “Crazy Clown Time,” the title track from his debut solo album, and it is exactly what you might expect from the master of suburban weirdness: violent, sexy and nightmarish.
With this kind of brain wave activity, no wonder Lynch practices Transcendental Meditation.
E.V. Day/Kembra Pfahler, Untitled, 50” by 50”/Edition of 3
There’s an online gallery of the amazing new collaboration between Dangerous Minds pal Kembra Pfahler and E.V. Day that’s been posted at Dazed Digital. The photos were shot in France at the famous gardens of Claude Monet in Giverny:
“I find that when your motives are very clear, it sets the tone for how people treat you. The gardeners there were so happy to see the costume juxtaposed with the verdancy of the garden – we got nothing but kindness from those we encountered. It was our intention to spread joy and it was contagious. So we didn’t come into any harmful objections from anyone.”
E.V. Day on Kembra:
“What I admire about Kembra – and the archetype she created, Karen Black – is that she explores the darkness that comes with extreme beauty, without losing sight of the humour in there, too. Plus, Kembra is about the sweetest person I ever met – except when she’s hungry and in the back of a tiny Renault that’s lost in Paris traffic.”
The work is currently on exhibit until April 24th 2012 at The Hole, 312 Bowery, NYC

Wisconsin’s foremost art rock exponents Bon Iver and long time collaborators All Tiny Creatures will be visiting Socal and environs in a couple of weeks. I was honored to be asked to remix a tune by all of the aformentioned parties in order to herald these events. Bringing the rather cryptic vocals to the fore and adding harmonies, slide guitar leads and re-thought drum strategy, I hoped to bring out the pop potential, but as usual with me it’s still pretty weird. Have an ear-gander below and also take a look at the video for the original version of the song.

Four never-before-seen paintings and one drawing by Kurt Cobain have been unveiled on The Fix website. According to The Fix, Courtney Love allegedly has plans to auction off the paintings which are expected to fetch over $100 million.
Nice panoramic timelapse of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window by Jeff Desom. According to the information on Vimeo, “The order of events is pretty much as seen in the movie.”
Robert Snyder’s excellent 1969 documentary The Henry Miller Odyssey takes a joyful look at the Buddha of Brooklyn and his fascinating world.
The colossus of Big Sur at work, living in, and revising old haunts in Brooklyn and Paris. Miller generously reveals how he saw his era, his peers and himself. He recalls his painful youth and his struggle to survive as a writer; talks about art, dreams, and the allure of Paris; reads passages from his works and enjoys himself with friends, including Lawrence Durrell, Anais Nin, Alfred Perles, Brassai, and Jakov Gimpel. What emerges in this insightful documentary is Miller’s charm, his gentleness and his lust for life.
Mostly narrated by Miller, this warm-hearted and playful film captures the essence of a man who did indeed have a lust for life.
Dangerous Minds has blogged about Daniel Kornrumpf‘s hyper-realistic embroidered portraits on linen before, but it’s been three years since he’s created any and the one pictured above, is new. Hopefully there’s more to come!
CBS chat show “Sunday Morning” presents an hour long interview with Patti Smith conducted by journalist Anthony Mason. This was broadcast earlier today and it’s quite wonderful.
Patti sings “My Blakean Year” and “Grateful” and talks about her life. Mason does a good job of asking the questions and Smith is relaxed and open.
Jan Švankmajer’s beautiful, mesmerizing yet strangely unsettling film Historia Naturae, Suita (1967), presents a short, 8-part history of nature, presenting each phylum through a different piece of music. These are:
Švankmajer is currently working on his next full-length animated feature Pictures from the Insects’ Life is due for release in 2015. Based on Karel Čapek and Josef Čapek satirical play from 1922, Pictures from the Insects’ Life tells the story of a tramp who falls asleep in a forest and dreams of insects as a metaphor for human life.
Here’s the trailer for the newly restored Yellow Submarine.
The digital clean-up of the film’s photochemical elements was lovingly done entirely by hand, frame by frame. Having seen the world premiere of the restored version at this year’s SXSW, I can attest to its eye-searing intensity and lysergic beauty. While the story obviously remains the same, rather thin with a script comprised of surreal non sequiturs and bad puns, the overall experience of watching the film in a pristine digital format overwhelms the narrative with colors and artwork so you rich you can practically taste it. And the stereo soundtrack sounded wonderful.
Coming out on Blu-Ray and DVD on May 29 with 5.1 surround sound. Expect to be astonished.
Mod Odyssey is a groovy short documentary on the creation of Yellow Submarine. Enjoy.
