Indian patient Prahlad Jani claims he has survived without food and water for more than seven decades.

Currently being held in isolation by India’s Defense Research Development Organization, Prahlad Jani has now gone six days without food or water and has yet to demonstrate any signs of hunger or thirst (he hasn’t crapped or peed either).  Doctors feel the long-practicing “breatharian” might possess some hidden “key” that will help save lives.  And by “lives,” they mean, naturally, military lives:

Mr Jani is regarded as a breatharian who can live on a ‘spiritual life-force’ alone.  He believes he is sustained by a goddess who pours an ‘elixir’ through a hole in his palate.  His claims have been supported by an Indian doctor who specializes in studies of people who claim supernatural abilities, but he has also been dismissed by others as a “village fraud.”

India’s Defence Research Development Organisation, whose scientists develop drone aircraft, intercontinental ballistic missiles and new types of bombs believe Mr Prahlad could teach them to help soldiers survive longer without food, or disaster victims to hang on until help arrives.  “If his claims are verified, it will be a breakthrough in medical science,” said Dr G Ilavazhagan, director of the Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences.  “We will be able to help save human lives during natural disasters, high altitude, sea journeys and other natural and human extremities. We can educate people about the survival techniques in adverse conditions with little food and water or nothing at all.”

A short documentary on Prahlad Jani and breatharianism follows below:

The Restoration Of Stephen Baldwin

“He’s no stranger to the Hollywood life of glitz, glamour, and the public eye.”  The calculation calculus goes like this: mock born-again Stephen Baldwin, you’re mocking God.  Well, Stephen and speaking-in-the-third-person Stephen will no longer abide the mocking!

Watch below as Stephen positions himself as a Job-like figure whose various misdeeds (bankruptcy, public idiocy, more public idiocy) amount to nothing more than tests of his own essential righteousness.

A small “token gifting” on your part would help ease the pain of Stephen’s bankruptcy and give him the ability to reach even more people with the gospel, so donate now, won’t you?  (Along with your gifting, take some time to write Stephen a message of encouragement.  I’m sure he needs it!)  Next up: the site to restore Jesse James.

Meditating On Cancer With Adam Yauch And Yoko Ono

Beastie Boy Adam Yauch is rallying the masses, and Yoko Ono, to help in his fight against cancer by engaging in a twice-daily meditation session.  From the letter sent out to the Beastie Boys mailing list:

hello,

wanted to send this out to you guys in case you were into it, or wanted to give it to anyone who you think might be.

a few friends and i are meditating at the same time twice a day.  9:30am and 6:30pm eastern standard time, for about an hour and half.

we are picturing smashing apart all of the cancer cells in the world.

we are visualizing taking the energy away from the cancer, and then sending it back at the cancer as lightening bolts that will break apart the DNA and RNA of the cells.  if you have the time, please join us in whipping up this lightening storm.  mind over matter…...

if you prefer to sit then sit, but if you are not used to meditating, or sitting quietly doesn’t sound like fun, put on some music and dance while you do the visualization, and if you want to do it at some other time, or picture curing some other illness that’s fine too.  yoko will be joining the meditation by visualizing all of us dancing with joy to celebrate the world without cancer.  all variations are welcome.  this is really just being done with a wish for all beings to be cured of all illnesses and to find true lasting happiness.

i’ll also be saying prayers for the earthquake victims in tibet, so join in on that if you can too.

please feel free to pass this onto anyone who you think may find it interesting.

with all my love,

adam yauch

I’m running out of time here on the West Coast for that first round of meditation, but I’ll be there for the second.  Beyond meditating for Yauch and the victims of the Tibetan earthquake, I do plan on taking it a bit further.

If the world is to be truly washed clean of “all illness,” can we not please link minds and find a way to cure it of this, and this, and oh, yes, this?!  “Radio Beastie” follows below:

Back Off Boogaloo: Ringo Starr blows off Vatican embrace of Beatles

Ringo Starr is saying “who cares” to the Vatican’s late embrace of The Beatles. Starr rolled his eyes at the Catholic Church, which praised the group and expressed forgiveness to John Lennon for his comments that the Beatles were “more popular than Jesus.”

“Didn’t the Vatican say we were satanic?” Starr said during an interview with CNN. “And they still forgive us?”

“I think [the Vatican] has more to talk about than The Beatles,” he added, alluding to the child sex abuse scandal that continues to plague the church.

The Vatican offered its latest peace offering to The Beatles in its recent issue of L’Osservatore Romano, its official newspaper, on Monday.

“It’s true they took drugs, lived life to excess because of their success, even said they were bigger than Jesus and put out mysterious messages that were possibly even satanic,” the newspaper said.

But, “what would pop music have been like without The Beatles?” it reasoned, describing the band’s music as “beautiful.”

The Vatican doesn’t appear to be extending the same kind of olive branch to other popular bands, such as Pink Floyd, Queen, Black Sabbath and The Eagles.

In 1996, those groups were among several - including The Beatles - that Pope Benedict XVI warned youth against listening to when he was still a cardinal, claiming their music contained “subliminal” satanic influences.

Lennon’s full quote was “Christianity will go. It will vanish and shrink. I needn’t argue with that; I’m right and I will be proved right. We’re more popular than Jesus now; I don’t know which will go first—rock ‘n’ roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It’s them twisting it that ruins it for me.” We suspect the late Beatle would feel the same about the Vatican’s volte-face as Starr does.

Two billboards in Marsa advertising the Pope’s visit to Malta got the unlikely addition of two stencilled images of what looks like a panda. It is not clear why the “artist” in question juxtaposed the bears with the Pope. The organising committee was alerted yesterday morning and it plans to erase the images.

No surprise here—none at all—that this is happening right in the heart of Michelle Bachmann’s congressional district. Is there something in the water in that part of the state that makes people fucking stupid? Evidentially so! Someone needs to do an environmental and demographic study of the area and IQ tests of the local population. I’m pretty sure it would show that there is a direct correlation between a low IQ and a vote for Michelle Bachmann. Not saying everyone in the area is an idiot, but some of them definitely are.

Andy Birkey writing in the Minnesota Independent:

imageGranite City Baptist Church raised some eyebrows this weekend when it bought an ad (pdf) in the St. Cloud Times that questioned whether Muslims are a “threat” to America. “How do Moslems seek to take control of a nation?” the ad, which features a photo of Pastor Dennis Campbell, asks. “Moslems seek to influence a nation by immigration, reproduction, education, the government, illegal drugs and by supporting the gay agenda.”

Just let me jump in here for a second: I have never in my entire life heard of any Muslim individual or group ever supporting any manner of some supposed gay agenda! Have you? Pastor, where did you get this secret information from? How many Muslims have you even met in your entire life? Back to the article:

The ad is part of a string of incidents in St. Cloud that troubles human rights advocates. Within the last year, pornographic posters depicting the Muslim prophet Muhammed were put up on St. Cloud telephone polls, and Muslim students in St. Cloud area high schools have reported religious harassment.

Last week, MPR reported on several racist Facebook groups that were created by St. Cloud high school students. “I hate the Somalians at Tech High,” was one such group. Kyle Adams, a former student at St. Cloud Technical High School (he was kicked out for repeatedly using racial slurs) told MPR, “I was raised in believing that this country was founded upon a white Christian nation and the belief of racial separation.”

The Granite City Baptist Church ad seems to mirror some of that anti-Muslim sentiment. “What happens when Moslems take over a nation?” asks Campbell in the ad. “They will destroy the constitution and force the Moslem religion on the society, take freedom of religion away, and they will persecute all other religions.”
