Terylene loom.
Cyber fiber. Virtual fashions for a virtual world.
Terylene was the first wholly synthetic fiber to be invented in the UK and after it was fully launched in 1955. Terylene quickly found public favour as an alternative to wool and cotton fabric. Cloth made from Terylene kept its shape after washing and was very hardwearing, it was the most widely produced synthetic fibre. The vast ICI plants at Billingham and Wilton on Tees-side employed 30,000 people and were showcases of the new industrial Britain. ICI opened its huge chemical complex at Wilton on Tees-side in 1952 and this later became the main plant for Terylene production.”
Do not wear near an open flame.
Once thought lost, but recently found and restored by Anthology Film Archives, artist/philosopher Manuel De Landa’s Super 8 Ism Ism captures his truly inspired collage mutations of New York City subway ads during the mid-to-late 70s. Slicing and dicing the perfect faces of models into deviant ghouls, Ism Ism turns the homogenate into the ripening rot of nightmares.
“Bad Girl” and “Subway Train” by the New York Dolls is the perfect soundtrack to De Landa’s animated subterranean monstrosities.
Rather macabre, don’t you think?
Associating your product with death may be a good idea if you’re selling caskets, but chewing gum?
The point of advertising is to get your attention and this commercial for Stride does do that.

Lee “Scratch” Perry’s Guinness ad campaign is several years old but I had to share this trio of high quality versions of what has to be some of the loopiest shit to ever appear on TV.
Perry has a new album coming out on May 10.
Rise Again is a guest-heavy affair, with Bill Laswell behind the mixing boards and a batch of collaborators that include TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe, P-Funk’s Bernie Worrell, Sly and Robbie’s Sly Dunbar and backing musicians for the likes of Tricky, Wu-Tang, Matisyahu and Shakira, among others.
Here’s a track called “Higher Level.” Sounds like vintage, dubby, Upsetter to me. Tunde Adebimpe singing background vocals.
“The safer you play, the longer you stay.”
Public service announcement from French safe sex organization AIDES is a wonderfully witty and effective way to get your message out there.
The video is an animation of a poster that can be seen in all of its glory here.

I don’t get Drug Free America’s ad campaign. Does this video make you want to give up smoking pot or, as in my case, want to start again?
Does “Drug Free America” mean free drugs for America?
I’m looking forward to the public service announcement featuring a hash brownie the size of a mattress. That should frighten the kiddies.
These wonderfully bizarre ads for Mentos Marbels were illustrated by artist Deelip Khomane for advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather in Mumbai, India.
Imagine a candy so sour it will drive you to suicide. An odd approach to selling a product, but it got my attention. The wheel of life and death spins off some dark humor.

Wonderbra has launched an eye-catching ad campaign and a unique way for women to test their products.
