San Diego Airport Dog Bathroom

The absolutely incredible image of a dog bathroom sporting a fire hydrant, above, was taken at the San Diego International Airport.

As of 2009, the Department of Transportation has apparently required all airports to make sure that there are pet relief areas available for any passengers traveling with service animals. The website Petfriendlytravel provides a handy guide to pet bathrooms across the US, and confirms that there is indeed a fire hydrant in the San Diego location:

San Diego International has three pet and service animal relief areas. One is located outside between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. At the Commuter Terminal, go to the west end; the area is located outside the terminal entrance. There is also a post-security animal relief area in Terminal 2 West, complete with fake grass, hand-washing station and a fire hydrant.

Redditor skippuy snapped a photo of his friend’s pig with what appears to be Yoda growing out of its forehead.

But what does this mean?!

Click here to see a larger image of Yoda growing out a pig’s forehead (honestly not a sentence I ever thought I’d type out in this lifetime).

No one on the Internet seems to know the provenance of this Russian video uploaded to YouTube on June 8, featuring a man in a wheelchair being pushed by his dog friend through a flooded street.

This gives a brand new meaning to “man’s best friend,” doesn’t it?

The Awful Art of Failed Taxidermy

Like watercolors of cartoon roadkill, these (rather fab) paintings of “Failed Taxidermy” are by Magnus Kallas, designer, artist and man behind the NSFW “guide to gutter culture,” Flash Glam Trash.

I am quite taken by these wonderfully affecting paintings, which are like finding those long, lost toys (once held precious) discarded in an attic…or, perhaps in this case, a cold, dank cellar.

Still, I’d rather have my favorite pet remembered in a painting like this, rather than having the dear heart stuffed.

View The awful art of failed taxidermy here, and more of Magnus Kallas’ work and web designs here.

According to this Australian newspaper clipping, a 60-year-old woman was humped to death by her 10-month-old pet camel.

The perplexing mention of the cup of tea on the table is a fairly random element to introduce into this story, don’t you find?

Little boy discovers meat is murder; makes his mom cry

I’m not posting this video to preach about vegetarianism or veganism, so spare me the grief (I still enjoy a good steak from time to time, even if it’s not often) but this little boy philosophizing about his octopus dinner is damned adorable.

Redditor Phormicidae sums up this sweet video quite nicley:

His philosophy is based solely on an emotional desire. What’s so touching is such deep compassion forming so early.

And on that note: “If you don’t eat your octopus, you can’t have any pudding, how can you have any pudding if you don’t eat your octopus!”

Not quite ‘Phase IV’: Woman kept awake at night by ants ringing her doorbell

A 75-year-old woman from Offenburg in Germany, was kept awake at night by a colony of ants ringing her doorbell.

According to the Metro the woman became so fed-up with the nocturnal bell-ringing that she contacted the police, in the hope of catching the prankster.

After an investigation, local police discovered the culprit was a colony of “prank playing ants.”

They said the insects had built such a big home that the nest pressed the switching elements together, keeping the bell ringing.

In the end, officers removed the nest with a knife, allowing the lady to enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep for the first time in a while.

There was no news on the ants but we wouldn’t be surprised if they’re off playing pranks somewhere else.

It’s a small pity Saul Bass didn’t include such larks when he made Phase IV, his cult film about intelligent ants at war with humanity.

‘The Private Life of a Cat’ is the ULTIMATE experimental avant-garde cat video, 1944

Henri le Chat Noir wishes he could get this kind of artistic cred

This beautiful 1944 silent film from husband-and-wife team Maya Deren and Alexander Hammid is quite possibly the only evidence we need that cats are the ultimate well-spring of creativity.

Deren and Hammid were both staples of the 1940s Greenwich Village avant-garde art scene. Deren, in particular, is considered a pioneer of film (and about 1,000 other artistic pursuits). Using their own cats in their own apartment, they chronicle the interior world of a cat “family,” and it’s just insanely compelling, even outside of the cat-lady milieu! A few short title cards loosely structure the trials and challenges of (and for) the new kittens. The tightness of the shots and attention to movement creates an intimacy with the viewer and the “performers.” While Deren and Hammid are most known for their first avant-garde film, Meshes in the Afternoon (which David Lynch cited as a major influence for Lost Highway), this lovely and weird little short is not to be overlooked.

Although credited solely to Hammid, it’s thought that Deren was more the director of the film, while Hammid did the shooting and the editing.

Man dies after having sex with hornet’s nest

This isn’t sexy! Who would think this is enticing?

I’m still trying to wrap my head around this one. Here goes: A 35-year-old Swedish man—who is only being named as Hasse—was found dead on his farm outside Ystad after making sweet, sweet love to a hornet’s nest.

His body was found by a neighbour, who said Hasse was so swollen he initially mistook him for a whale carcass.

Hasse was unconscious when he was found but died an hour later from the injuries he sustained.

Snip~

An autopsy of Hasse’s body showed semen on some of the dead wasps and a number of the victim’s pubic hair was found at the entrance of the nest. His fingerprints were also found on the nest, leading the police to believe he had been trying to have sex with the hornet’s nest when he was stung to death.

“To attempt to have intercourse with a hornet’s nest is a very bad idea,” Siv During Livh, a psychologist and expert on sex fantasies told the news website.

You don’t say…

Update: Too weird to be true? Metro UK says so.

You can read the rest of the WTF details at International Business Times.
