Love the Cramps? Hasil Adkins? Dig the 21st century rockabilly of PowerSolo!

Happy New Year!

Want some new music to listen to today? Of course you do. Dig the incredible 21st century rockabilly of Denmark’s astonishing PowerSolo. They’ve been around for over a decade, but the first time I clapped ears on them (although I didn’t know it then) was seeing the Klown movie a few years back. The wife and I rewatched that film recently and the soundtrack to a druggy, boozy party scene—which I was hearing now for the second time—really jumped out at me.

“WHO IS THIS?” I asked. “Beat Happening?” ventured she-who-must-be-obeyed, which was a decent guess, but the answer turned out to be PowerSolo, two rail thin brothers… Thee Railthin Brothers.

Here’s the video for that song, “Knucklehead”:

Excellent, right? That song is from their 2006 album, Egg, which I highly recommend. “Babe, You Ain’t Lookin’ Right,” a number from their debut album was used in the first episode of American Horror Story.

And then there’s THIS hopped up little baby, “Boom Babba Do Ba Dabba” from their most recent longplayer, The Real Sound of PowerSolo. It’s like Hasil Adkins meets Snakefinger meets Las Vegas Grind meets “Ma Nah Ma Nah” and if that’s not enough to get your year off to a rockin’ good start, I don’t know what would be.

You do not learn how to play guitar like this, you are born to play guitar like this.

One more, “Got No Fear,” a shot on VHS video from 2011’s Buzz Human album:
