‘Tubular Bells’ meets Tim and Eric? ‘A rock guitar symphony of epic proportions’

Oh my God, how much insane, back-breaking work went into this video??? According to the description it was “more than a year in the making” and holy mackerel, I believe it. The huge number of takes, the complex process of figuring out the blocking of who goes where (at what size and when), the delightful video effects (and backgrounds!!), not to mention the massive number of costume changes (which sometimes involve wigs)..... my hat goes off to you, Ethan Winer, you beautiful.

This video, called “Tele-Vision,” seems less a “song” than a seven-minute demonstration of all the instruments Winer can play expertly—according to the promotional video, that number is 32. There’s a whole lot of guitar noodling on the track, which seems to conform to a certain highly polished version of prog, perhaps, but incorporates country and jazz elements too and whatever else Winer felt like throwing in there.

Winer has more than a touch of “Not Tim and Eric” in him, although that fine subreddit hasn’t gotten around to including him yet. Although unlike most of Tim and Eric’s characters, Winer may be a peculiar presence but he distinguishes himself mainly through high levels of skill.

On his website, you can order his DVD which contains similar videos (some of them tutorials, I believe) for a mere $18.99 in the United States.

Below are the videos for “Tele-Vision”:
