Hello, it’s the ninth episode of the Dangerous Minds Radio Hour. Allow, if you will, host Brad Laner access to your head space and be rewarded with as many indelible melodies, rhythms and sounds as can be crammed into one Earth hour. Today’s episode features a mini-tribute to the powerful, emotional music of Judee Sill (picture above). Her music is so significant to me, I can hardly muster the verbiage to describe it. Staggering stuff, if you’ve not yet heard it you’re in for a treat.

Crispy Ambulance - Deaf
Theatre Of Hate - Rebel Without A Brain
Marvin Gaye - Troubleman
Lady June (with Kevin Ayers and Brian Eno) - The Letter
Judee Sill - Jesus Was A Cross Maker
Judee Sill - The Kiss
Neil Young - Don’t Cry
The Roches - Hammond Song
Wigwam - Fairyport
Frank Zappa - It Just Might Be A One Shot Deal
Things to Come - Come Alive
Prince - New Position
Prince - I Wonder U
The Fiery Furnaces - Mason City

This, the fifth episode of the Dangerous Minds Radio Hour finds your host Brad Laner going it alone (Richard will return for the next episode) and delving into some expansive jams by some stalwart DM heros along with some recent discoveries. These are sounds for those of us who are unconcerned with filing our musical tastes within convenient corporate marketing categories and who hold music in too high esteem to assign it mere lifestyle accessory status. Hope you dig it.

Yes - “We Have Heaven”
Henry Cow - “Industry”
Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band - “Kandy Korn”
Gato Barbieri - “Antonios Das Mortes”
Junip - “Loops”
The Funkees - “Akula Owu Onyeara”

Calling all rock snobs! In case you haven’t noticed, we’ve started to make podcasts of The Dangerous Minds Radio Hour available on the blog. Every couple of weeks, Brad Laner and I will get together and do our best to entertain you with fun, obscure, and often wacky avant garde music, hit singles and… more.!

If you were listening you’d have already heard this amazing track, “Take a Chance” by Material, featuring LaBelle’s Nona Hendryx, a fierce, spaced-out, glammed up soul diva if ever there was one.

Have a listen. You don’t know what you’ve been missing, so how will you know if your life is complete without The Dangerous Minds Radio Hour in it? Listen to show #3 here.

Back in May Richard, myself and Elvin Estela (aka DJ Nobody) had the notion to make a pilot episode for a possible Dangerous Minds radio show. The format is a round robin wherein we three music nerds each take turns presenting tunes we think the others (and hopefully the listening audience) would enjoy hearing along with some bits of information and personal anecdotes. In short, a radio/podcast version of what we do every day on the blog. So after some hemming and hawing, as you do, here’s what we came up with. We’re thinking of making this a regular feature for the site. Let us know what you think !

Alan Hawkshaw - Blarney’s Stoned
Armando Trovaioli -Sesso Matto
Keith West- On A Saturday
Alex Oriental Experience - Derule
? - My Name Is John (seriously, we don’t know who this is, help !)
Alison Gross - Naturally
The Oimels - A Day in the Life
Desmond Dekker - Come Together
Leon Russell - I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry
Marcos Valle - Mi Hermosa
P.J. Proby - The Day Lorraine Came Down
Baths - ♥
Monitor - Beak
Scotty - Clean Race
Focus - House of the King
