A (Very Short) History of Tobacco

Speaking of James Bond, Ian Fleming's super spy was, of course, an ardent smoker. In fact, in print Bond is said to smoke 70 cigarettes per day. Sean Connery's 007 didn't smoke all that much onscreen, but he was smoking when he uttered the immortal "Bond… James Bond" line. In an effort to distinguish his Bond from his predecessor's, Roger Moore smoked cigars and had it in his contract that he was to be supplied with an "unlimited" amount of high quality cheroots. Asked how many of these Moore puffed, Bond producer Albert "Cubby" Broccoli sighed "In the thousands." Pierce Brosnan actually did an advertising campaign for Lark in character as 007 and so did Timothy Dalton, who smoked Larks onscreen and ever so suavely made sure that audiences saw the Lark logo whenever he lit up.
