Via Phantasmaphile:

She’s baaaaaaack.  Yes, one of the world’s greatest living artists (and I say that without hyperbole), Julie Heffernan, has a sumptuous new show opening called “Boy, O Boy.” It consists of her signature, fecund self-portraits, only this time she reimagines herself as a male youth.  As someone who is guilty of gravitating toward female-focused works myself, I must say it is refreshing to see the idea of gender and art played with - and in such a splendidly beautiful way. The show is up at PPOW Gallery from April 29th to June 5th, and is absolutely not to be missed.

Brilliant wallpaper design by Carnovsky. From design blog Today and Tomorrow:

Three different patterns are printed over each other, resulting in a very unclear image. Red, green or blue light can hide 2 of the patterns and make the third one appear.

Although it was covered in the Los Angeles Times and shown at a couple of high profile film festivals, Spike Stewart’s mid 80’s doc “D.U.I.” has been utterly lost to obscurity. A collection of completely obnoxious performances captured roughly
on semi-pro VHS gear, it probably deserves its unknown status but is still a rare glimpse into a very marginalized and hilarious scene of performance art tinged bands. And yes, that’s 17 year old me on drums with Severed Head in a Bag. NSFW !

Unleash your inner rage at art in the age of mechanical reproduction—bash Andy Warhol at the Brooklyn Museum!

Andy Warhol had a big head, so naturally, the Brooklyn Museum installed a 20-ft Warhol-head-shaped piñata. It’s filled with mysterious edibles that will rain down on art lovers when they smash it open at the Brooklyn Ball.
