Christian cannibal puppeteer who planned to abduct and eat child sentenced to 20 years in prison

Remember Ronald William Brown of Largo, Florida, the 58-year-old proprietor of “Puppets Plus” who was charged last year with the possession of child pornography and of conspiring with another man to kidnap and then eat a child? Brown was a regular on a Christian Television Network kids program with his ventriloquist dummy “Marty” and would warn kids about the dangers of things like… pornography.

Earlier this week Ronald Brown was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a federal judge for possession of child pornography. Brown was an active member of the Gulf Coast Church in Largo and had a Sunday school puppet ministry to entertain rambunctious children while their parents listened to the sermon. He and an accomplice, Michael Arnett, were planning to abduct a specific child who was a member of the church and who took part in Brown’s “Puppet Ministry Kidz Zone” program.

Homeland Security agents who searched Brown’s mobile home and tool shed discovered images of bound and gagged kids, photographs of dead children and a flier for a missing child.

According to a Tampa Bay Examiner blogger:

Brown and Arnett chatted about murdering children as young as two. In one chat, Arnett described to Brown what it is like to drown a little girl and what different body parts taste like if roasted or fried in a pan.

Brown revealed to Arnett in another chat regarding the little boy at Gulf Coast Church that he would enjoy strangling the child to death.

Imagine how stunned members of this church were. The very guy who they trusted to entertain their kids during the sermon was fantasizing about killing and graphically dismembering one of them in online chat-rooms!

Then again, I’d probably think twice about leaving children with a creepy 57-year-old single guy living in a trailer park with only his puppet friend for company, you know? (Watch the video below, would you trust your kid with this guy? Yikes!)

One of the statements Brown allegedly made during a chat session with Arnett was released by police:

“I imagine him wiggling and then going still.”

Brown—who told investigators that this was all just a fantasy (Of course!) and that he’d never think of hurting someone—admitted that he had discussed killing, cooking and eating a specific child in online chats with Arnett.

Below, Brown and “Marty” talk porn:

It’s not really so much his ass that she kicks…

A thief gets more than he bargains for when he attempts to rob a woman of her cell phone, in a Russian underground station. Tremendous!

There’s a campaign to free Big Lurch, rap’s infamous imprisoned murderer-cannibal? Seriously?!

You rang?

Texan gangsta rapper Big Lurch’s story was tabloid gold in 2002: a gory, PCP-fueled murder of his young female roommate—with the unexpected twist of cannibalism.

He was found standing in the middle of a Los Angeles street, naked and disoriented, wacked out on angel-dust, covered in (her) blood with human flesh found in his stomach that obviously wasn’t his. Big Lurch’s 21-year-old roommate Tynisha Ysais was found murdered and butchered in their shared apartment, with tooth marks on her face and organs, particularly her partially consumed lungs.

Big Lurch pled not guilty by reason of insanity, but following a court-ordered psychiatric evaluation he was declared to be of sound mind despite his PCP use. He was found guilty in 2003 and is currently serving a life sentence. Prior to the murder he was a member of Cosmic Slop Shop and also worked with Mystikal, C-Bo, RBL Posse, Mac Dre, Too Short and Lil’ Keke, among others. His only solo album, It’s All Bad, was released in 2004 on Black Market Records after his conviction.

Tynisha Ysais’ mother sued Black Market Records and Big Lurch for wrongful death, claiming that the record company deliberately gave him drugs in order to encourage the kind of violent criminal behavior that would enhance his rep as a gangsta rapper. This would in turn improve his career and sales. The lawsuit accused Black Market of providing drugs “to encourage [him] to act out in an extreme violent manner so as to make him more marketable as a ‘gangsta rap’ artist.”

If that were indeed part of a grand plan to make his image thuggier, things clearly went awry quickly. Dabbling in cannibalism is (usually, not always) never considered a good career move.

There is a campaign to free him, and believe it or not, it’s not even a 4Chan troll. It is an actual campaign. You can donate to the cause via PayPal, buy “Free Big Lurch” T-shirts, or send Big Lurch (real name Antron Singleton) some mail and gifts in prison.

You see, there was evidence of other DNA at the crime scene that didn’t belong to Big Lurch or Ysais. Okay, yeah, he ate parts of her, but his supporters claim that someone else murdered her and he should be freed. You know, because “Hip-hop ain’t dead…he’s in prison.” The “circumstantial evidence” is discussed in the 2011 documentary Rhyme and Punishment, which is devoted entirely to rappers who have been addicted to PCP and incarcerated.

Weird that the only person I personally knew who smoked angel dust did things under the influence like write about beauty products, how to achieve the perfect “smoky eye,” and what makeup to use in order to look fabulous after staying up partying for two nights straight.

Interview with Big Lurch, below:

Neo-Nazi Black Metal murderer Varg Vikernes arrested, suspected of terrorist plot

Varg
He used to look like this…

In 1993, Varg Vikernes, onetime bassist for Black Metal band Mayhem, stabbed their guitarist, Øystein “Euronymous” Aarseth, to death. Vikerenes maintains to this very day that the murder he committed was self-defense, but his description of the events leading up to the altercation is completely deluded, and everyone related to the event is fairly content in the fact that Vikernes is a violent psychopath, completely capable of murder. And of course, there’s that little damning detail that he had recently been convicted of burning down a few churches, which really doesn’t speak to your character.

After 15 years in a Norwegian prison, Vikernes’ “politics” gravitated more formally to neo-Nazism (surprise!), specifically the Nordic style national socialism that tends to fester in the black metal scene. Now he’s been arrested on his farm in France (where he has three children) on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack. The red flag was the purchase of four rifles.

Varg
And now he looks like this. European arms-stockpiling neo-Nazis can look just like American arms-stockpiling neo-Nazis—who knew?

Now, four legally purchased rifles may not seem like a lot to American ears (what with our penchant for arming batshit crazies to the teeth), but when you consider a previous record of, you know, terrorism and violence, it’s not that suspicious to connect church burnings, murder, and neo-Nazism with the potential for more of the same. If that’s not enough, Vikernes reportedly received a letter from terrorist Anders Breivik, the terrorist who in 2011, bombed a government building, and two hours later opened fire at a summer camp for the youth league of a Norwegian socialist party. He killed a total of 77 people.

Vikernes actually wrote back to Breivik, theorizing that Breivik was actually a false flag orchestrated by Jews, meant to undermine legitimate neo-Nazis:

Working for the Jews, are you Mr. Breivik, to unite all European right-wing extremists under your false banner? To make sure the focus on the Jewish enemy of Europe is moved to something else? Or maybe you don’t even know that you have been used by sinister Jews?

So now not only Christians kill Muslims, and vice versa. Right wing extremists are supposed to kill left-wing extremists too and vice versa I assume? Is that the plan? You did this to recruit and make even the right-wing extremists fight for the Jews?

Who benefits from this? Israel does! The Jews do! None of our aggression will be directed at them were it all should be directed. We will be fighting each other instead, whilst they move about in the background, out of the spotlight, and profit from our suffering, and in secret tighten the chains of slavery around our waists and ankles.

I’d like to think the US could attempt this sort of careful diligence in apprehending our own domestic terrorists, but let’s be honest, gun-wielding psychos are a protected class in this country. Below is a video of Vikernes talking about murdering Euronymous (for a great documentary on the Norwegian Black Metal Scene, check out, Until The Light Takes Us). As you might expect, the dude is fucking crackers.

When Bowie got busted: Local news reports from his 1976 Rochester, NY pot arrest with Iggy

On March 21, 1976, David Bowie was on his “Isolar” trek around America (aka “The Thin White Duke tour”) and “Golden Years” was high on the US pop singles charts. But when the tour pulled into Rochester, NY for a concert at the War Memorial Arena his golden years could have been derailed when the singer and Iggy Pop were arrested on marijuana charges for an impressive amount of herb, about half a pound. Under the harsh Rockefeller drug laws, that could have resulted in fifteen years in prison, but ultimately resulted in nothing other than a minor inconvenience for Bowie, and one of the very best celeb mug shots of all time.

John Stewart reporting in the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle of March 26 1976:

After silently walking through a crush of fans, police and reporters, English rock star David Bowie pleaded innocent to a felony drug charge yesterday in Rochester City Court. Bowie, 28, entered the Public Safety Building through the Plymouth Avenue doorway at 9:25 a.m., just five minutes before court convened, with an entourage of about seven persons, including his attorneys and the three other persons charged with him.

He was ushered into a side corridor by police and was arraigned within 10 minutes, as a crowd of about 200 police, fans and reporters looked on. Bowie and his group ignored reporters’ shouted questions and fans’ yells as he walked in — except for one teenager who got his autograph as he stepped off the escalator.

His biggest greeting was the screams of about a half-dozen suspected prostitutes awaiting arraignment in the rear of the corridor outside the courtroom.

Asked for a plea by City Court Judge Alphonse Cassetti to the charge of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, Bowie said, “not guilty, sir.” The court used his real name — David Jones. He stood demurely in front of the bench with his attorneys. He wore a gray three-piece leisure suit and a pale brown shirt. He was holding a matching hat. His two companions were arraigned on the same charge. Bowie was represented by Rochester lawyer Anthony F. Leonardo, who also represented his companions, James J. Osterberg, 28 of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Dwain A. Vaughs, 22, of Brooklyn. Osterberg, described as a friend and Vaughs, described as a bodyguard, also pleaded innocent to the drug charge.

Osterberg also is a rock musician and performs under the name of Iggy Stooge. Bowie has produced at least one of Osterberg’s album in the past. Judge Cassetti set April 20 for he preliminary hearing for the three men. He also agreed to set the same date for the Rochester woman charged with the same offence, Chiwah Soo, 20, of 9 Owen St., who was also in the courtroom. Cassetti allowed Bowie to remain free on $2,000 bail, as well as continuing the $2,000 bond on the other three persons charged. Bowie and the other three were arrested by city vice squad detectives and state police Sunday in the Americana Rochester hotel, charged with possession of 182 grams, about half a pound, of marijuana in his room there. Bowie was in Rochester of a concert Saturday night.

Bowie’s arrangement was witnessed by his fans, some of whom had waited two hours to catch a glimpse of him. All remained quiet in the courtroom and scrambled after his arraignment to watch his exit from the building. But fans and reporters were disappointed as city uniformed and plain-clothes police slipped him out unnoticed. Using a maze of elevators and stairwells, police took Bowie and his entourage out a side exit, across the Civic Center Plaza and into Leonardo’s office on the Times Square building’s seventh floor.

Only about 30 fans were on had to yell goodbye as Bowe and his friends left from Leonardo’s office at 12.30pm. Bowie, for the first time, waved to the crowd as his limousine pulled out from a parking space on West Broad Street, made a U-turn and headed for the expressway and the drive back to New York City. The blue-and-black Lincoln Continental limousine had been ticketed for overtime parking, but a plainclothes policeman took the ticket, and put it in his pocket.

Bowie had remained silent throughout the morning but granted a five-minute interview to newspaper reporters in Leonardo’s office. Leonardo, however, wouldn’t allow any questions directly concerning the arrest, saying it was the first criminal charge he’d ever faced. He complimented city police, though, for the protection they provided him yesterday.

“They (city police) were very courteous and very gentle,” Bowie said. “They’ve been just super.” Quiet and reserved, Bowie answered most of the reporters’ questions with short answers, shaking hands with them when they entered and left. Asked if the arrest would sour him on returning to Rochester, Bowie said “certainly not, absolutely not.” He also said he was “very flattered” by the fans who turned out for this arraignment. “I felt very honored,” he said.

Bowie and his entourage arrived in Rochester about 4am after performing a concert in the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island Wednesday night, Leonardo said, he will appear tonight at Madison Square Garden, his final concert of his America tour, Pat Gibbons, said.

Are the Rich Committing Treason?

A beautifully worded, very brief think piece by Prof. Robert Reich, Bill Clinton’s Secretary of Labor, is making the rounds that puts the behavior of the nation’s 1% into stark relief.

Are the rich committing treason? Certainly they’re committing something…

Permit me an impertinent question (or three).

Suppose a small group of extremely wealthy people sought to systematically destroy the U.S. government by (1) finding and bankrolling new candidates pledged to shrinking and dismembering it; (2) intimidating or bribing many current senators and representatives to block all proposed legislation, prevent the appointment of presidential nominees, eliminate funds to implement and enforce laws, and threaten to default on the nation’s debt; (3) taking over state governments in order to redistrict, gerrymander, require voter IDs, purge voter rolls, and otherwise suppress the votes of the majority in federal elections; (4) running a vast PR campaign designed to convince the American public of certain big lies, such as climate change is a hoax, and (5) buying up the media so the public cannot know the truth.

Would you call this treason?

If not, what would you call it?

And what would you do about it?

Nicely done, Robert Reich!

Discuss!

Orange Is The New Black: Rachel Maddow buries the career of Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell
07.11.2013

“I am so fucked…”

Holy shit! If you haven’t seen Rachel Maddow’s EPIC slap-down of Republican Governor Bob “vaginal ultrasound” McDonnell, then settle in for some eye-popping reporting.

The background to the two-segment Maddow expose came from an earlier McDonnell bombshell courtesy of The Washington Post:

A prominent political donor gave $70,000 to a corporation owned by Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell and his sister last year, and the governor did not disclose the money as a gift or loan, according to people with knowledge of the payments.

The donor, wealthy businessman Jonnie R. Williams Sr., also gave a previously unknown $50,000 check to the governor’s wife, Maureen, in 2011, the people said.

The money to the corporation and Maureen McDonnell brings to $145,000 the amount Williams gave to assist the McDonnell family in 2011 and 2012 — funds that are now at the center of federal and state investigations.

Williams, the chief executive of dietary supplement manufacturer Star Scientific Inc., also provided a $10,000 check in December as a present to McDonnell’s eldest daughter, Jeanine, intended to help defray costs at her May 2013 wedding, the people said.

Unlike many political scandals, this one is very easy for the common man to understand. It’s not complicated. There’s no nuance to this one whatsoever: The governor of Virginia is on the take, he’s a tax cheat and he’s a bald-faced liar.

That the whole scandal centers around a diet supplement, of all things, makes it all the more amusing.

The Maddow show’s producers had exclusive access to the GOP governor’s financial disclosure statements from 2008 to the present and the revelations of the report, are, to say the very, very least, pretty damning.

And it’s not just a paper trail that haunts the Virginia governor, it’s a squirmy, “blinky” TV interview he did right before the revelations of the additional funny money from his sugar daddy “no strings attached” benefactor Jonnie R. Williams Sr. surfaced in the Post’s report. Right before.

As you’ll see in the segment, Maddow uses that interview to make a meal of this guy. McDonnell is gonna go down and he’s gonna go down hard. You can bet that a whole lot of influential people in his state have seen her segments and read the Post article. How much more fucked could he be? (Surely it puts South Carolina’s Mark Sanford’s relatively minor scandal into stark relief, doesn’t it?)

And it’s piss yourself funny to see the GOP standard-bearer, their candidate for governor (and current Virginia Attorney General) Ken “the Cooch” Cuccinelli also involved in this… up to his eyeballs! You may recall “the Cooch” as the flaming asshole wanting to keep a law on the books making blowjobs illegal in the state…

As I watched the report, I tried to imagine what was going through Bob McDonnell’s mind as he realized how fucked he was, because you just know he and his wife and their lawyer have all watched the whole thing… more than once.

And then I noticed a banner ad for the new Neflix “binge TV” offering Orange Is The New Black and it occurred to me what must be on Bob McDonnell’s mind!

From the state house to the big-house. I’m pretty sure that being Rod Blagojevich’s prison cellmate is not a path that McDonnell, a self-proclaimed conservative Christian, saw his life taking.

Boo-hoo, Republican weenie. If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime, Governor.

There were unbelievably horrific scenes at an amateur soccer match in Maranhao, Brazil, on June 30th, when a referee was lynched, and his head put on a stake, after he killed a player during an argument.

Eurosport are reporting that the 20-year-old referee, Otavio Jordao da Silva fatally stabbed 30-year-old Josenir dos Santos Abreu, during an altercation on the soccer pitch.

Santos Abreu was believed to have remonstrated with da Silva over a refereeing decision. Santos Abreu then struck the referee before da Silva fatally stabbed the player.

Santos Arbeau was taken to hospital but died from his injuries.

Angered by the incident, spectators took a horrific revenge on referee da Silva. According to Eurosport:

‘..the referee was tied up, beaten, stoned and quartered. They then put his head on a stake and planted it in the middle of the pitch.

One man, Luiz Moraes de Souza, 27, has been arrested over the incident. He has admitted to assaulting the referee but denied killing the man. Police are searching for two more suspects.

They are currently viewing video footage of the incident filmed by a witness with a mobile phone.

In a statement, the regional delegate of Santa Ines, Valter Costa, who is looking after the case, said: “One crime never justifies another crime. Actions likes this do not collaborate with the legality of state law.”

The original news report (plus photographs of the scene and victims) published in the Brazilian press, can be found here.
