I featured this Wilson Pickett concert awhile ago on Dangerous Minds. But the video disappeared from the Internet only to re-appear in the past 24 hours. Our good fortune. It’s really quite amazing.

Made for German TV in 1968, this documentary contains some of the best live music footage I’ve seen, soul or otherwise. Wilson Pickett is at the height of his powers. The audience goes apeshit. And his band is a monster.

While the audio tracks from the performance have floated around in various vinyl incarnations, the film itself has been hard to come by. I’ve never seen a pristine print. I hope there’s one out there somewhere. This deserves the kind of re-mastering job that The T.A.M.I. Show underwent. In the meantime, dig it in all its raw glory.
