Can the Coen Brothers break the beatnik curse in their new movie?

Here’s a trailer for the new Coen brothers’ film Inside Llewyn Davis which is set in the Greenwich folk scene of the early 1960s. Something tells me if anyone can pull this off, the Coens can. So far every movie dealing with this era of American pop culture has been a bust. Can Joel and Ethan finally bring the beatnik vibe to the big screen?

The source material couldn’t be better. The movie is roughly based on “The Mayor of Macdougal Street” by folk guru Dave Von Ronk. It has a solid cast in Oscar Issac, John Goodman, Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake and Adam Driver (Girls). No release date has been announced.

The trailer is set to a tune that Bob Dylan wrote in 1963 called “Farewell.”
