Cheap Dollar Store toys become bizarre, mashed-up works of art

A plastic wrestling action figure mashed-up with a Marvel ‘Red Skull’ action figure becomes ‘DEVO the Barbarian.’

Perhaps taking notes from H.G. Wells 1896 novel The Island of Dr. Moreau, the fantastic Tumblr Dollar Store Combine features odd creations that were made by mashing-up items that were found at discount merchants like the Dollar Store or 99 Cents Only.

After getting its start in 2014, Dollar Store Combine has continued to post images of fantastically weird cheap plastic hybrids like “DEVO the Barbarian” (above) and other amusing interspecies collaborations such a carp and a Tyrannosaurus Rex known as the “Carpediomsaur II.” Though I may be wrong it does appear that Dollar Store Combine has sold some of its strange inhabitants in the past, so if you are realizing that you have lived long enough without a plastic banana split remote control car known as a “Sunday Driver” then today might be your lucky day.

If nothing else the Dollar Store Combine is an awesome Internet time-killer and I for one am obsessed. I’ve posted a bunch of my favorite characters from the excellent Tumblr for you to ponder below.

‘Sunday Driver.’ A remote control car combined with a plastic banana split. WOW.

‘Carpediomsaur II.’

‘Golden Saw.’

A T-Rex with wings from a ‘My Little Pony’ figure is now a ‘Happy Tregasus.’

A plastic ‘King Kong’ head and a tank become ‘Think Tank.’

A plastic version of boxer Mike Tyson’s head atop a Galaxy Warrior action figure body. Yes!

Part Sauropod dinosaur and part Galaxy Warrior wrestler action figure called ‘Lieuntenant Loch.’

A smiling hotdog mashed-up with a wrestling action figure. Because, why not?

Happy-looking french fries with wrestler action figure legs.

Vampire bat mash-up

Funky and cheap party glasses combined with a Mannix wrestler action figure becomes ‘Oculus.’

A little plastic octopus and a soccer player action figure.

A tiny robotic dog toy and the head and hands of a Kewpie doll becomes a ‘Buppy.’
