Jah Wobble’s ‘A Very British Coup’ is the Brexit anthem the UK needs

It’s difficult to imagine a more timely soundtrack to the distinctly anti-democratic shenanigans of unelected Prime Minister Boris Johnson than “A Very British Coup” the new single from Jah Wobble. The angry anti-Brexit anthem reunites Wobble with two of his former Public Image Ltd., bandmates drummer Richard Dudanski and guitarist Keith Levene. On vocals is Mark Stewart, who for my money is the best possible stand-in for you-know-who. (No one will even miss him. I didn’t.)
The new three-track single (which includes a radio edit and a dub mix of “A Very British Coup”) is released tomorrow on Cadiz Music on limited 12” color vinyl and available digitally at all the usual outlets. It was produced by Youth and also features Wobble’s brother Charlie Wardle on Chinese harp and loops from Andrew Weatherall and Nina Walsh.
Q magazine calls the band a “post-punk Avengers” and maybe that’s what it’ll take? In any event, the next two months are going to be very interesting, let’s hope in a good way. I won’t be holding my breath.
Jah Wobble’s Post Punk Apocalypse Dub album is set for release in in October.
