The most disturbing drawings of an alien abduction

We’ve all been there. What do you do when talking to someone, and things are going great, until suddenly they look you in the eye and say, “I survived an alien abduction”.

The likelihood is that they’re lying to you, and if they’re not, then they’re mistaken, yet there are so many people who have stories like this. Which is not to say that many people can’t be all be lying, by the way. They certainly can. However, a number of the people who claim to have survived an alien abduction don’t seem to be spinning a yarn for attention or money. They seem to genuinely believe that’s what happened to them.

Of course, the one thing that these people don’t have is proof. Which makes sense, these things don’t tend to happen in broad daylight with lots of eyewitnesses around. You can say that doesn’t matter since literally all of us carry a camera in our pocket these days, but one can also imagine that if a civilisation is advanced enough to have mastered space travel, they also probably know how to neutralise a cameraphone. Especially if you believe all the conspiracy theorists who believe that visitors from other planets have been keeping an eye on us for centuries.

What these people do have are memories. Take Hilary Porter, a self-described “lifelong abductee,” who drew pictures of it to illustrate her experience.

As someone who used to work as a draftsperson and artist for the UK Ministry of Defence, this is someone with years of experience in recreating things that she’d seen as pencil drawings, so when she self-published her book The Diaries and Recollections of an Alien Abductee, she quite literally illustrated her memories herself.

These are joined by genuinely chilling recollections of her experiences. The first one occurred when she was five, while playing in the long grass near her childhood home. “Suddenly, there was a reptilian alien in front of me. It had scaly skin, black holes on the nose and a little mouth,” she writes.

Adding, “It wasn’t tall – maybe 5ft, but very strong. It grabbed my arms and pulled me towards a disc in a depression in the field. It dragged me underneath into a lift, and the door slid closed. The next thing I knew, I was in a room with consoles and coloured lights and little figures moving around.”

These visitations continued throughout her life, all the way up until adulthood when she had children of her own. “I had just put my daughter Sally to bed and came downstairs.” She said. “Then I spotted a huge figure by the window. I froze. After a few moments, he raised his hand, and I did the same. After that, I wasn’t quite so frightened. I thought he wasn’t going to hurt me. Then he glided to the back of the garden. He moved so fast. Whoosh. Then he shot sideways, paused for several seconds, and was gone.”

Now, I’m not the kind of person to say that you should keep an open mind to anything you hear. Some people really are just lying to you. However, trust is the sort of thing that societies are built on. Trust between people is at an all-time low at the moment, and it’s one of the (many) reasons that everything’s falling apart right now. Just because someone is saying something mental doesn’t mean you shouldn’t listen to the person saying it, even if it’s only to let the person say it.

After all, the brain processes traumatic experiences in several ways. Sometimes they don’t look a whole lot like what actually happened.
