For when you have more dollars than sense: $2,145 designer purse resembles the blue IKEA bag

This is perhaps one of the dumbest ideas I’ve seen in a long time: A $2,145 Balenciaga handbag allegedly inspired by the blue IKEA bag. Is this for rich people to haul their dirty clothes to the laundromat in? ‘Cause that’s what I use my IKEA bags for. But then again, the wealthy probably don’t use laundromats. What was I thinking?

Anyway, the bag is on Barneys website with this description:

Balenciaga’s Arena extra-large shopper tote bag is constructed of blue wrinkled, glazed leather.

The real question is though: does it make that annoying crunchy sound? That’s how you get the full effect of an IKEA bag.

Here’s what IKEA has to say about the $2,145 designer bag:

We are deeply flattered that the Balenciaga tote bag resembles the ILEA iconic sustainable blue bag for 99 cents. Nothing beats the versatility of a great big blue bag!

This dog’s butt looks just like the Ikea monkey

Remember Darwin the macaque monkey who achieved worldwide Internet celebrity four years ago when he was photographed running amok, dashingly suited in a shearling coat, in an Ontario IKEA? The image of tiny forlorn Darwin launched a thousand memes.

Darwin, a prohibited exotic animal, had escaped from his owner’s car when he was spotted in the IKEA. His owner at the time was fined $240 Canadian dollars ($177 USD) for keeping a prohibited animal and subsequently lost a court battle to win him back.

Since then, Darwin has been housed at the Story Book Farm Primate Sanctuary in Ontario where he has lived a pretty normal monkey life ever since his days of Internet fame. Last December, VICE published a lovely interview with one of Darwin’s caretakers.

The subject of Dawrin the macaque in the shearling coat came up a couple of days ago when someone posted the following image to reddit simply titled, “My friend’s dog’s butt looks like the IKEA monkey.”

The post delivers on the title’s promise:

The resemblance is uncanny.

This is the best dog ass since the Jesus Christ dog ass:

IKEA’s Expedit line is biting the dust, and vinyl nuts aren’t happy about it

Expedit

IKEA recently announced that they are discontinuing their Expedit line of bookshelves—at least in Germany—and the news has sparked an intense reaction among German vinyl enthusiasts. For a generation now, Expedit has been the shelf of choice for record collectors, who don’t care to imagine life without the line. It seems to be the case that IKEA product lines are not specific to countries—if that’s true, then that probably means that IKEAs in America will also cease carrying the Expedit line soon, too.

Expedit

Since mid-January there has been a Facebook group dedicated to saving the Expedit. “Rettet das Ikea Expedit Regal” (Save the IKEA Expedit bookshelf) has already amassed 5,820 “likes” in just over a month. Record collectors united!

Expedit
“Last chance! We’re always making room for new things. The EXPEDIT series is exiting the product line. Take advantage while it’s still here!”

The Kallax line has been announced as the replacement for Expedit. It is a close match to Expedit and will certainly do a fine job holding your LPs. However, if you already have Expedits in your home and need your next shelf to match, you’d better stock up now. The user “soundscope” on the 35hz.co.uk message forum pointed out that the sides are not nearly as thick. Even worse, a Facebook user on the “Rettet das Ikea Expedit Regal” suggested that Kallax has no 5x5 version, which Expedit does offer.

All things are temporary in this life, including mass-produced bookshelf lines. As the Sufi poets of medieval Persia once said, “This too shall pass.” But those guys didn’t collect vinyl.

Here’s a useful guide to the Expedit line for record collectors:

Death to false furniture: IKEA or a death metal band?

Apparently I know a big bunch of nothing about IKEA furniture and death metal bands ‘cause I failed this quiz miserably.

IKEA is that friendly shop where you get cheap furniture from the inside of a giant, unending warehouse. Black metal is the kind of music that sounds like someone screaming while trapped inside a burning church. They each possess a fervent fan base. And to tell you the truth, the names of the furniture in IKEA sound a lot like the names of black metal bands. Consider this quiz an educational way to learn the difference between the two. It doesn’t matter if you know who Burzum is or if you’ve ever sat in a Preben chair – it’s time to have some kvlt fun.

You can take this very important quiz here. Maybe you’ll fare better than I…

Just Another IKEA Catalog is a refreshing Tumblr dedicated to “Scandinavian modern style furniture and accessories in amateur pornography.”

As you can probably guess by the title, it’s totally NSFW.

There’s a Tumblr called “I(KEA) got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one!” dedicated to poking fun at the sheer ridiculousness of IKEA deleting ALL images of women from their new Saudi Arabia catalog.

IKEA has since released a statement admitting “regret.”
