You know how there are certain albums that a husband and wife can agree on for the soundtrack to a weekend’s house cleaning? It has to be something completely acceptable to both parties, and so I think it says a lot, well at least something, that Tara and I often collectively choose to tidy up the place to the music of the twisted dark lord of low-fi analog electronic dance music, Tobacco.

We’re equally agreeable on the subject of Tobacco’s incredible psych-pop band Black Moth Super Rainbow (“Do you wanna hear this one again?” “Fine with me”).

But Tobacco’s music is not only for making unpleasant household chores more bearable. It’s music that wants to fuck your head up.

Behold the video for “Demon Practice” from Tobacco and Tucson, AZ-based weirdo MC, Zackey Force Funk, working under the moniker Demon Queen. The demonic duo’s upcoming record Exorcise Tape is out Aug. 6th on Rad Cult. Also on the track is Zackey’s cousin and fellow freak MC, N8NOFACE.

Photos of women taking snuff, 1855

Retronaut posted the above vintage photo circa 1885 of a woman taking snuff. There’s some debate on the Internet as to whether it’s real or ‘shopped, but I’m not sure why it’s so controversial. As “unladylike” as it may seem for that era, snuff was actually considered an aristocratic luxury which separated the upper classes from the tobacco smoking lower classes.

I found another, smiliar photo, dated 1860 on the CWFP website. Maybe they’re just picking their noses and those aren’t snuff boxes they’re holding at all, but “booger holders”?

Ever wonder where the expression ‘blow smoke up your ass’ came from?

I’ve always heard the expression “Don’t let me blow smoke up your ass” and never really knew where it came from. Do you?

Through hard research (Google) I found out it was actually a medical procedure used in the eighteenth century where, literally, smoke + tobacco was blown up a drowning victim’s bum to resuscitate them! Makes perfect sense, right?

Below, Stephen Fry and friends go into detail about the small bellows used to “revive” a drowned person.
