Michigan State Police were alerted immediately after the body was found in the festival’s camping area and have released a statement regarding the matter.
They said, “The Michigan State Police continue to investigate the discovery of a deceased neonate found Sunday morning in the camping area at the Electric Forest Festival. Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance.
“If you were in the area and observed anything unusual, or if you have information that you believe may be relevant, we encourage you to come forward.”

Their statement also added, “We appreciate the public’s cooperation and ask that people avoid speculation on social media out of respect for the investigation and those affected.”
The festival, which has been active since 2011 and has mainly platformed jazz music, jam bands and house DJs, also shared a statement on Instagram about the discovery.
They said, “Forest Family, it causes us so much pain to have to share this difficult news with you. Michigan State Police continues to investigate this tragic event, if you can assist in any way. HQ is heartbroken and knows that our Forest Family is as well.’
Additionally, after the tragic discovery of the baby on Sunday morning, a severe storm caused the entire festival site to be evacuated until it was safe to return later that evening.
This was the fifth edition of the festival since an enforced, three-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
