Florida man says he “teleported” into BMW while blaming aliens and X-Men for crashing vehicle
A 36-year-old Florida man, Calvin Curtis Johnson, is currently in custody after crashing a BMW convertible, which he says he “teleported” into for a joyride, before crashing the car.
Johnson was found with a bloody face after the vehicle wreckage, which took place on December 8th. But the incident began elsewhere, at Bicentennial Park in Ormond Beach, where a man walking his dog decided to leave his keys inside his BMW.
Deputies reported that the thief quickly took advantage of the open goal. A witness reported of the car thief, “He kept asking for a light. I thought, how does he have a BMW if he doesn’t even have a lighter for a cigarette?”
Only a short time after, the stolen car was seen speeding at more than 130 miles per hour down the highway. Eventually, it crashed at Old Dixie Highway and Plantation Oaks Boulevard. Quickly, the vehicle was engulfed in flames, and deputies at the scene pulled Johnson from the driver’s seat.
Johnson was full of gratitude, which he expressed alongside a torrent of queer remarks, such as “You saved me from the aliens.” In a confused ramble, he also mentioned the X-Men, the team of superhero mutants from Marvel Comics.
However, he went on to admit that he was speeding when the crash occurred. The vehicle was a 2018 BMW Convertible 230i, which is worth around $25,000.
Additionally, body-camera footage released by the sheriff’s office shows Johnson, bleeding and disoriented, telling deputies that he had not stolen the car. Instead, he insisted that he had “teleported” into it.
Johnson will now face charges including grand theft of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license. Prosecutors have not announced whether they will seek additional charges related to the high-speed crash or any traffic offences.
