KitKat launch chocolate tracker in hunt for 400,000 hijacked bars
As news of the 400,000 hijacked KitKat bars sweeps social media, the chocolate brand found a curious way of attempting to find the stolen goods: a new, fully-functional, online chocolate tracker.
The unlikely theft saw a truck carrying 413,793 bars of the newest range of the beloved treat, which set off from central Italy to distribute chocolate across the continent, stop at a mysterious leg of the journey.
Nestlé has not revealed the exact spot where the truck was lost. A spokesperson confirmed officially that “12T of KitKat products were stolen while in transit between our factory in Central Italy and their destination in Poland.”
While investigations are ongoing, the organisation behind the delicious creation has launched its own initiative to search for the missing bars: An online tracker.
Consumers of the sugary treat have been encouraged to enter the batch number on the back of their bar into this tracker; if the bar has come from the stolen batch, the company will be alerted through an automatic process.
Though it points to a greater issue across the chocolate industry, Nestle has maintained a lighthearted stance on the matter throughout, sharing officially, “Whilst we appreciate the criminals’ exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes.”
Nestle also confirmed that they are not concerned for the rest of their stock: “The good news: there are no concerns for consumer safety and supply is not affected,” the spokesperson clarified.
Additionally, though the total of bars now missing nears half a million, there will not be a shortage across the UK, as families begin their chocolate-eyed shopping in time for the Easter holidays.
