Quadruple amputee arrested on murder charges following fatal shooting
Dayton James Webber, a quadruple amputee, has been arrested on murder charges following a fatal shooting in Maryland.
Webber, who also played in the American Cornhole League and has previously been interviewed by prominent sporting outlets like ESPN, is charged with both first-degree and second-degree murder.
His arrest is in relation to the murder of 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells on March 22nd in La Plata, Maryland.
Charles County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement of the alleged incident, “On March 22 at 10:25 pm, officers with the La Plata Police Department were flagged down by two people near the area of La Plata Road and Radio Station Road in La Plata.”
They continued, “A preliminary investigation revealed the witnesses were in the back seat of a car when the driver, Dayton James Webber, 27, of La Plata, shot and killed the front seat passenger during an argument.”
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office stated that Webber then “asked the passengers to help pull the victim out of the car”, but they refused and instead fled the scene. They added, “Webber then fled with the victim still in the car. All occupants of the car are known to each other.”
Wells’ body was later found in a yard on Newport Church Road in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, and Webber was arrested after being traced to a hospital in Virginia.
Despite not having any limbs, Webber seemingly uploaded videos of himself using a semi-automatic pistol to his YouTube channel, which he was able to use with his stump.
After becoming a professional cornhole player in 2021, Webber made history as the first quadruple amputee to reach this achievement in the sport. He also used his platform to be a disability advocate.
In a social media statement, the American Cornhole League said amid the ongoing investigation into Webber, “We respect the judicial process and will not comment on specific allegations or details while proceedings are ongoing.”
They continued, “We will provide updates if and when it is appropriate to do so, but in the meantime the league will have no further comment.”
