Secret Service investigates heavy metal band for faking Donald Trump execution
The Secret Service has weighed in to investigate a US heavy metal band after they faked an execution of Donald Trump on stage.
The band GWAR have become known for pulling similar stunts against various public and political figures as part of their act, but when footage of their mock execution of the current US president began to circulate, things took a rather serious turn.
GWAR’s singer, Mike Bishop, otherwise known as his stage alias of Blöthar the Berserker, recently gave an interview with Rockin’ with Jam Man in which he opened up about the ordeal, which began after the band performed the stunt in Washington on their Warped tour.
“We killed President Obama. We didn’t hear from the Secret Service. But you kill Trump, and you better believe that there’s gonna be some shit going on,” Bishop said, alluding to the investigation.
“It happened to us not too long ago,” he continued, but when asked directly if GWAR were the subject of a Secret Service investigation, he simply stated: “Let’s just say that GWAR is on some lists.”
It comes as GWAR have created a notoriety for themselves over the years in which they have staged fake executions of various figures, including Barack Obama, as Bishop mentioned, as well as Princess Diana.
Speaking of how the current political landscape has changed their infamous act, Bishop added: “For years, GWAR would do whatever the fuck we wanted. We would kill politicians from both sides of the aisle. We would kill famous people. We never had any backlash.”
However, he noted: “But until Donald Trump got in office, that’s when people started getting extremely upset about politics and music and politics in art.”
Despite being somewhat elusive when it came to explaining the potential political ramifications for GWAR, Bishop pointed out that the biggest issue has arisen from companies like Live Nation, who he claimed were considering their relationship with the band as they are “susceptible to pressure from the government.”
