Sex toy shoplifter who threatened man with a stolen leg of lamb escapes jail in New Zealand

A New Zealander has been sentenced for a bizarre string of crimes, including shoplifting from a sex shop and threatening a man with a leg of lamb.

30-year-old Naumai Johnson has been sentenced to spend six months in home detention after being found guilty of a slew of strange illegalities.

According to local publication, Waikato Times, which is based in the Hamilton region of New Zealand, Johnson would likely have faced a stronger sentence if it wasn’t for her lack of previous skirmishes with the law.

The main criminal activities carried out by Johnson were stealing a $270 toy from a sex shop, as well as threatening to attack a Transport Centre with a stolen leg of lamb.

At the Hamilton District Court on December 11th, Johnson pleaded guilty to 26 charges, including wilful trespass, threatening behaviour, theft and shoplifting. These incidents occurred over a long period of time.

On April 22nd, Johnson was caught leaving Woolworths supermarket with a full trolley that was stacked with goods worth $256.50. Despite an employee trying to prevent her from leaving the premises, Johnson ignored their pleas and continued with her exit.

She then began to unload the groceries onto a bus, but didn’t have the money to pay for her ride home. This led to an altercation with an operator, which saw Johnson threaten to attack him with a leg of lamb that she’d just stolen from Woolworths.

Johnson also stole the money box, which contained $125, from the driver’s seat following the heated argument.

That very evening, she attempted to steal $385.98 worth of groceries from another Woolworths, but was stopped by an employee on this occasion. Although she did still manage to flee with $154 worth of food from the supermarket.

On May 7th, Johnson entered the Peaches and Cream adult store. Immediately, employees tried to get her to leave due to her history of trespassing at the establishment, which sparked a fiery confrontation. Before safety officers could arrive, Johnson picked up a Playboy sex toy, worth $269.99, and left the shop without paying a penny.

Judge Noel Cocurullo told Johnson in court, “The only reason you are not going to jail is because of your limited conviction list. I get it. Things are tough out there. But they are tough for many people, and those many people don’t steal.”
