Thousands of hot dogs force the closure of major highway: “Hot dogs are very slippy”

Hot dogs and the summer sun usually go together perfectly. But in an unwelcome recent turn of events, the pork product has left thousands of people furious as a sausage spill closed a highway.

Thousands of hot dogs were spilt across the busy road, leaving a whole host of unhappy motorists.

Pennsylvanians travelling through Shrewsbury last week were met with a particularly troubling decision to make: carefully slow down and move around the road obstruction or set up some sort of giant grill to get the truckload of spilled hotdogs in their rightful place.

The US state found itself at the butt of a few jokes as one of its main highways was closed by the unlikely issue. A truck carrying the pork tubes was crushed against the concrete divider on the highway, spilling the food item onto the road filled with travelling commuters.

Motorists had to contend with thousands of hot dogs littering the road as the crew worked tirelessly to clean up the mess.

A morning commute isn’t the ideal space for a hot dog-related incident, and all those involved in the clean-up efforts found it more difficult than some might have expected.

“Once those leave the truck and hit the road, that’s all garbage, and it’s still pretty warm,” Shrewsbury Fire Company Chief Brad Dauberman said. “I can tell you personally, hot dogs are very slippery,” he added. “I did not know that.”

As well as volunteers with shovels, who may or may not have pocketed a few of the roadside-toasted treats into their lunchboxes for later were seen gathering up the product. From there, a front-loader was used to heave many weiners into a dump truck.

It’s unknown whether the items were disposed of or simply sent to New York’s park vendors and sold as “now with extra flavour”, but it’s easy to see how more than a few Pennsylvanians were put off attending their family cookout last weekend.
