Florida man shoots bear that breaks into his family home
A Florida man has detailed the moment when he shot a bear that entered his family’s home last week.
On September 19th, the Clark family were having a normal day at their home in DeLand, which is located near Orlando, when an unexpected guest decided to stop by and was ultimately shot by homeowner Zeke Clark.
The bear made its way from a nearby woodlands to his garage, where it was initially trapped. However, upon hearing the garage door shut behind him, the bear went into a fit of rage and managed to find a way out of the room.
During an interview with local television WESH, Clark explained, “Door shut behind him…. You can tell bear freaked out that a bunch of damage in here because he couldn’t get out. Then he came to this door… bent this door. Got this door open.”
Clark’s mother-in-law was sitting in the living room when the bear marauded its way through the house and was alerted by the sound of the dogs barking. Fortunately, the bear didn’t enter the living room, and instead opted for the bathroom as it was the only open door in the house.
After seeing the bear enter the bathroom, Clark shut the door behind it. He explained, “I was able to get the door back open again. I shot one time inside the bathroom. Shut the door again because the bear was trying to get back out, and then finish by shooting two more time.”
He was then able to drag the bear out of the bathroom after putting the ferocious animal on a tarp, before the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission arrived to take care of the rest.
Thankfully, no real damage was caused despite the bear successfully breaking into the property, which is a stroke of luck that is not lost on Clark, who added, “This could’ve been a much worse situation. I’m thankful for that.”
