Man falls from a 12-storey Japanese building and survives, but kills woman
Shinsei Taguchi, a resident of Nagoya’s Sakae district in central Japan, fell from a 12-storey apartment building in the early hours of July 19th.
He landed on a 23-year-old woman, who has since been identified as Houra Inaba, which broke the fall enough to save his life. Tragically, Inaba was not so lucky.
Both Taguchi and Inaba were hospitalised after the incident, after it was reported to authorities by a friend of Inaba at around 1am local time.
The accident itself didn’t cause the death of Inaba, who was brought into the hospital alive but passed three-and-a-half hours later at 4.30am due to hemorrhagic shock, otherwise known as blood loss.
At the time of writing, according to Kyodo News and The Mainichi, Taguchi is “unconscious and in critical condition.”
The circumstances of his fall are also unclear. It is not known whether his fall was an accident or intentional, which floor he fell from or whether the apartment he fell from was his own, as no news outlet has yet provided any details about his life before the fall.
Sakae is a densely packed inner-city area, with thousands of people living there alongside several other entertainment centres and retail outlets. However, the only eyewitness to the tragic accident was Inaba’s friend.
