Stoned Labrador rescued on Ben Nevis after eating cannabis

A Labrador has been rescued from Ben Nevis in Scotland after being believed to have accidentally consumed drugs.

Christina Bluhme was making the journey up the Scottish mountain over the weekend when she realised something was amiss with her black Labrador, who is named Tokyo.

Thankfully, Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team were on hand to help Tokyo, helping the dog make the 4,400ft trip down to ground level and get her treated by a local vet.

Upon arriving at the veterinary clinic, Bluhme, who is also a dog trainer, was informed by the specialists that they believed Tokyo had ingested cannabis that had been left on the trail.

Before the rescue team arrived, Tokyo had lost control of her legs, with Bluhme conceding, “I genuinely thought I was going to lose her.”

She added, “Without the incredible Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, there is simply no way I could have got her safely off the mountain. Carrying a 25kg Labrador down Ben Nevis was impossible on my own.”

Bluhme continued, “Their kindness, professionalism and calm support meant everything during one of the most frightening days I’ve ever experienced.”

The dog trainer also hopes that others will take a valuable lesson from her experience, adding, “A little reminder to fellow dog owners – please be aware that discarded drugs and other toxic substances can sometimes be found even in the most beautiful outdoor places.”

It comes as the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team said the “active working dog” had seemingly “ingested something that made her critically unwell”.

Thankfully, Tokyo has since made a full recovery and is back to her usual upbeat self.
