Felix The Cat Blotter Acid

In keeping with the LSD theme here at Dangerous Minds, I present a lysergic episode from The Twisted Tales Of Felix The Cat. The series aired on CBS from 1995 to 1997.

In this episode, Felix gets psychedelized in Pittsburg!  There’s a shitload of rock references in this trippy little mindbender, from Chuck Berry and Elvis to Dylan, grunge and Led Zeppelin. Dig the Rick Griffin eyeballs, the reference to cheeba and the scene where Felix lands in a melting landscape and says “well, hello Dali.” This is out there stuff for network TV.

You don’t have to speak Mandarin in order to appreciate this scathingly funny Sarah Palin animation from Taiwan television.

It appears that Asians find Palin as ridiculous as most clear thinking Americans do. Scary thing is, the reality is so absurd it’s almost beyond satire. How much more of her shit is this country willing to swallow?

Internet superstar Mark Gormley’s new video is absolutely epic! In additon to amazing production values, stunning choreography and mindbending mysticism, it has all the visual and erotic magic we have come to expect from Mark . Director Phil Thomas Katt, the Gerard Damiano of rock videos, has simply outdone himself. He may entering his Kubrick phase.

Be prepared to have your breath taken away. I suggest eating some mescaline for a totally enthralling experience. The song is called All You Need and it is all you need.

Mark, now more than ever!

Not so much a Freudian slip, more a Fleudian srip, probably.

Censorship lives! Pioneering queer-punk Bruce LaBruce’s latest dropped from Aussie fest

Nothing like a good banning to warm an old gay punk’s heart—especially in the internet age. Looks like Australia’s classification of Toronto-based filmmaker Bruce LaBruce’s latest bit of hardcore underground gay gore, L.A. Zombie as pornography has prevented it from being screened at the Melbourne Film Festival. According to Melbourne talk-radio station 3AW, LaBruce couldn’t be happier:

‘‘My first thought was ‘Eureka!’… I’ll never understand how censors don’t see that the more they try to suppress a film, the more people will want to see it. It gives me a profile I didn’t have yesterday.’’

Virtually all of LaBruce’s films—from the skinhead-fetishizing No Skin off My Ass from 1991 through to the political-porno-zombie flick Otto; or Up With Dead People—have managed to shock and scandalize straights and gays alike with their violence and satirical stereotyping. It’s good to know there are some areas in the Western world that aren’t immune.

Gary Shteyngart is a very funny satirist and in this video he’s sending up the promotion of his own book: Super Sad True Love Story,

A deliciously dark tale of America’s dysfunctional coming years - and the timeless and tender feelings that just might bring us back from the brink.

Very clever ad campaign.

Seeburg Industrial Background Music Records

I think that those of us who are old enough to remember hearing actual Muzak in public places were in fact hearing one of these diabolical devices: The Seeburg 1000 background music system. Essentially a stackable spindle record player that played Seeburg’s specially produced 16rpm, big hole in the middle LPs chock full of motivating background music, sure to bring out the productivity in your employees and the wallets from your customers. I was delighted to find literally hundreds of clips of these records, alas mostly being played on conventional players, on the youtubes. For the pupose of this post I’m concentrating on a few examples from Seeburg’s long running Industrial library:

Average tempo: medium fast. Predominantly instrumental, with a light seasoning of great vocals. An occasional polka or march. Emphasis on popular music. Minimum of stringed instruments. Unusually rhythmical. Over-all lively character but never a rock ‘n’ roll. Designed for Industrial plants only.

Much more after the jump…
