Rcrd Lbl has just made the title track from the upcoming new Xiu Xiu LP available for your listening pleasure. I think it’s a stunner on many levels. Mostly I love this (and everything else I’ve ever heard by them) because they’re so bloody-mindedly perverse in every sense. Great singing (is he serious? think so !), proper hooks, great sounds, brilliant and surprising production. Lovely confusion.

It’s obvious that John Edwards is reviled by a large segment of the American people and rightfully so, if you ask me. The hayseed Lothario is viewed positively by only 15% of people in his home state of North Carolina. The firm who took the survey, Public Policy Polling, say this makes Edwards the “most unpopular person we’ve polled anywhere at any time.”

He’s still seen positively by 25% of Democrats but only 9% of independents and 3% of Republicans. Interestingly despite his new image as a philanderer men have a more unfavorable opinion of him (75%) than women (68%).

The numbers are what one would expect when polling the popularity of a politician who cheated on his cancer-stricken wife while possibly fathering a child out of wedlock, all while running for the presidency of the United States. And Edwards’s horribly negative portrayal in the new 2008 campaign book, “Game Change,” certainly didn’t help matters.

And about that “horribly negative portrayal” in Game Change there is an excerpt from the book on New York magazine’s website that is well worth reading. In fact, it’s astonishing. What a fucking idiot! Edwards alone could have been the ruination of the Democratic party with his insane, reckless philandering under such intense media scrutiny. Imagine if he’d gotten the nod instead of Obama and then got caught out. McCain/Palin win the election by a landslide. McCain dies in his sleep and Sarah fucking Palin is the leader of the free world. Bing, bang, boom. THAT could have been our collective fate because of this guy! I hate John Edwards. He’s an asshole of epic proportions and his karma must be putrid. It must hurt to be the most unpopularest guy ever but Edwards earned it.

And if you want to know how I really feel…

As it happens, in the wake of our little Eno-fest yesterday, doomandgloomfromthetomb is hosting the old double vinyl bootleg classic “Air Structures”; Robert Fripp and Brian Eno’s performance at the Olympia in Paris on May 28th, 1975. As far as I know this was the only tour ever undertaken by the two. Sure would be good if they attempted something like this again on stage some day. Here’s a funny anecdote relating to another stop on the same tour via Frippertronics:

The whole gig had it’s own special ambiance, with the spectacle of gun-toting Basque Separatists at the airport during their arrival, and playing the arena floor of this bullring. Anyway, they played the show and towards the end, got this loop going and then they both left the “stage” and retired to an enclosure from which they could see the crowd through some shutters. As Eno peered out at the crowd he was noticed.  The next thing that happened was that this fellow came up and pulled aside the shutters and said in a U.S. drawl “Hey guys ! Is the show over ?” to which Eno replied “Well it is for us, but not for you”

The Coming “Demographic Winter”

“On every measure, ever measured by the social scientists, the intact married family is the strongest on every outcome ever measured.”  This Demographic Winter documentary sounds terrifying!  Not for its suggestion that the human race is dying out, but, as Sociological Images’ Gwen Sharp points out, for its apparently singular concern over the white human race.  You know, everyone “blessed” enough to live in either Europe or America.  And while information at the Demographic Winter site hardly states this pointblank, there’s no denying the film’s underlying message:

Is there a ?

John Travolta has announced that he will fly “volunteer ministers” from the Church of Scientology to Haiti, to help victims of the country?
