Awesome 70s horoscope pants… could anybody get away with this now? Could anybody get away with it then?
They’re plastic rats. They fit on your fingers. And they shoot light out of their noses. Lights of many colors. Which, according to the packaging, is “Ideal for Night Blogging!”
What? You haven?
Bump… Swoon Magazine, the awesome Los Angeles / New York underground fashion mag that I covered previously on Dangerous Minds is now shipping.
This issue features on the current Los Angeles and New York music scenes (and this stuff is actually GOOD. I hate most music and especially indie crap but editor Kelly McKay is an adept at finding and publicizing Truly New and Exciting and Interesting bands that people haven’t heard of and really should. This stuff WILL expand your cultural knowledge base about 17 chess moves past the party line.)
Bands featured in this issue:
From LA: We Are The World, Weave, Rainbow Arabia, Marfa and Ne-af, Fancy Space People, Hard Place, Hecuba, Jer Ber Jones.
From NYC: Preacher and the Knife, Bellmer Dolls, Lights, New York Night Train, Golden Triangle, Patrick Cleandenim, Rebecca Cherry, The Nasties, Electric Tickle Machine, The Beets, Light Asylum, Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson, White Diamonds, Class Actress, Bunny Rabbit.
We’re big fans of artist Derek Erdman here at Dangerous Minds (his painting Fortunate Teens Party With Morrissey (1994) hangs in our office). Derek made a trip (dark pilgrimage?) to The Gathering of the Juggalos (i.e. fans of The Insane Clown Posse rock group) and he’s put up an appropriately insane photo gallery of what he found there. Here are some of our favorites.
Charming, eh? Here’s a group shot of some Juggy buddies and a couple of Juggettes:
Her sign reads: “$2 to see nice big ole titties” but offers a dollar discount if you happen to be a “down ass Ninja.” Another sign, on a food truck read “Show us your tits or dick for a free drink”!
And there is the video version. Reminds me a lot of Heavy Metal Parking Lot, obviously.
DARK CARNIVAL OF SOULS: The Juggalo Gathering 2009 by Derek Erdman
Thank you Chris Campion!
This gets pretty interesting at around 1:16.

Photographer Ian Lozz and Art Director/Illustrator Lawrence Mann have new work up on their website titled “My Animal Side.” I adore the classic English gentleman look!
Thanks Lea Zuccaro!
Style Bubble has a fun post about De Culinaire Werkplaats’ “Taste the Unwearables” edible fashion installation and menu created for fashion week. The designs are made from fruit and vegetable gelatin-based fabrics (no meat, they’re vegetarian.) Style Bubble says, “So we entered and immediately I went on a camera frenzy snapping everything and anything… fruit gelatin-based fabrics form neckpieces, dresses over chicken wire and dried fruit/vegetables make earrings, rings and bracelets. They’re even constructing an edible wedding dress this weekend that will be eaten in a communal feast.”
My very good friend Kelly McKay’s fashion magazine Swoon is launching its latest issue, a split publication devoted to the New York and Los Angeles music scenes. Issue five, arriving immanently, is available for pre-order?
I like this this! Pulp Book is collaboration between supermodel Joni Harbeck and photographer Neil Krug. The book will feature 200 pulp inspired images. Neil Krug explains his book:
Pulp is an upcoming photo book of psychedelic images made to look like old school paperback covers. The book features supermodel Joni Harbeck exclusively as the heroine in a world of fabricated dramas. Everything in the book has been photographed with expired polaroid film to put across the mood of looking at a beautifully beat to hell dusty LP cover.
Putting this book together has been my favorite project to date. The book reflects our love for artists such as Robert McGinnis, Tanino Liberatore, Alejandro Jodorowsky, and a slew of others. Their work is a major influence for this project.
