Ohio auteur Jim Van Bebber dropped out of film school to make the cult classic and cheapo masterpiece Deadbeat at Dawn with his student loan money. At some point during the two years that followed Deadbeat‘s 1988 release, he apparently started working on his second feature with members of Skinny Puppy. (As you may know, Skinny Puppy is a band of horror movie fanatics.) History does not record why this unfinished gorefest about a homicidal tow-truck driver (“sometimes when you call for help… you get HELL instead”) was named Chunk Blower, but if there has ever been a better title for a horror movie, I haven’t heard it. As a former employee of two video stores, I am jaded when it comes to movie names—and let me tell you, gay porn has got everybody beat in this department, hands down, worldwide, forever, don’t even try (Mantasy Island? Dr. Jackoff and Mr. Hard? God, I Was So Drunk???)—but Chunk Blower has everything I’ve ever wanted from a horror movie title. Vivid imagery in three handsome syllables that sound like a person hurling.

Sadly, all that remains of this aborted project is the trailer below, in which late Puppy keyboardist Dwayne Goettel (as “Squelch”) and former SP member/Front Line Assembly founder Bill Leeb play stranded motorists in desperate need of chunk-blowing, disembowelment by tow-truck hook, or something. Goettel and cEvin Key were to have scored the movie.
